Our House Emergency Family Shelter

Provides emergency shelter to homeless families in crisis.

Family is defined as having at least one adult (18 or older),
with legal and physical custody of at least one child.

Provides emergency shelter for up to three families at one time.

Families may reside at the shelter for a maximum of 30 days.


Financial Assistance Services
Offers a one-time-only financial payment on behalf of eligible recipients to avoid essential utlity shut-off, evicition or foreclosure.

Provides financial literacy classes

Network of Food Closet Service
Our House Families collaberates with the network of food closets in the City of Chesapeake.


Information & Referral Service
Our House Families provides persons seeking assistance referrals to other appropriate human service agencies, organizations and ministries that will assist them in their crisis.


Transitional Housing Program Reaching Up Program (RUP)
Provides housing and support services for homeless families that need more time than is offered in the emergency shelter.

Offers families a chance to pay rent (on a sliding scale) according to their financial situation.
Families may stay up to two years.

Provides case management to develop long-term planning for self-sufficiency and independence.
